It's important to follow the money- ya know, who's benefitting(or not) from the story getting out. Dirty bastards. Nice write up, Phil.

The corruption runs deep. I listened to the podcast “Murder in Oregon” awhile back, pretty mind blowing.

Phil, thanks for this. I recall meeting with you at a cafe on the east side and you asking if I knew anyhting about the Goldschmidt "mess", or if Governor Ted Kulingoski was awre of a pendng release; I didn't and he didn't. I beleive you sid you were on a deadline to beat Willy Week, but I see you were sand-bagged.

When I learned about G's passing, I wrote on my Facebook site about all the times I wroked with Goldschmidt (including Prison reform and Michael Franke) and how I felt about the "afffair" with the 13 year old. Margie Boule responded that it was not an "affair" but rape. I remember as I wrote, that affair seemed inadequate, but I felt "rape" was a single act and this went on for years; it was a predacious relationship, so I will settle for that.

I asked, in return, why she or anyone else that I can determine, hadn't gone in -depth about the mother of the youong woman. She worked fo Godschmidt and there is not way that she could not have been aware of what Goldschmidt was doing. Boule resonded that she was askled hold that in confidence--baloney as far as I'm concerned

Sex trafficking is a very profitable business, as you can sell the same body over and over again. And the initial price is usually peanuts with so many people on the edge of survival. We have thousands crossing the border these days and then just disappearing into criminal gangs. If I had to guess, the major corruption at the State Pen here was related to sex, not just drugs. Neil was obviously easy to control after he couldn't keep his schlong in his trousers. And add in the willingness to rake in shekels and be the "guy" made it all the worse.

Those were some pretty tricky times! Zaitz' and Crombe's hit piece for the O was a doozy, and it must come back to haunt them today knowing everything we asserted was true, and everything they asserted was cut and paste from the State. They barely touched the thousands of pages of docs they claim to have. I know this because I provided them access to those docs and also was able to observe their activity where I had them stored. Frank's alibi was in those docs, if they had looked. Phone records and eviction notice. Boom.

The story about the trip to Reno with McAlister is retold by...McAlister, who falsified his records to show he drove back with Mike, but the charge receipt on Mike's Master Card shows the plane ticket charge to book his flight out of Reno early. The article is here for all to see.

When this came out, there was something that the O didn't see coming, and that was the story that Phil handed off to Jim Redden at the Tribune where Shorty Harden the other "eyewitness" with Jodie Swearingen, admits that he lied to save his ass and that Tim Natividad did come to his crib that night bloodied and panicked, and threw his clothes, save a tan cashmere 3/4 length coat, into the dumpster, and that he'd never seen Frank Gable at the time and had no idea what the Dome Building was. That story wiped out the two eyewitnesses as Jodie had recanted BEFORE the trial of Frank Gable, and his drunk attorney Bob Abel was incapable of nailing that tidbit at trial!

There was a cover up by the State Police when Johnny Crouse piped up, and they hit scramble mode because of the connections that Crouse would lead the investigation in. April of 1990 they, along with the DA, created the Frank Gable scenario, but it was going to take some time. Meanwhile, the hue and cry from the public at large to address the "rumors" were screaming "bring in the Feds", and THAT is what tripped Goldshit's trigger, because, well he had an affair, with a teenager. The State cops new about the "affair" because it came not from the horse's mouth, but his wife's. Yes, Margie, who later went on record to say that Liz was the predator(I shit you not), had confided to one of Goldshit's (State Police)security team (https://www.oregonlive.com/special/2008/02/second_giusto_investigation_fi.html)whom she was very intimate with, to the point that when Goldshit was headed back to Mahonia Hall, he'd get a heads up call from OSP security driver, to get unintimate. So now the State Police owned good old Goldshit, and could use that juice to shut down any talk of an outside investigation and let their boys, who took care of business in the '86 corruption at corrections investigation, handle it anew. And Voila, Frank Gable is delivered, along with not one, but two eyewitnesses, and a half dozen more in the supporting cast of characters created.

Goldshit walked away unscathed, and became a multimillionaire because of the machine he had set up to enrich him, and his partners in crime. Millions to provide advice to SAIF. Really?!?!? Just one of the strings pulled. Thanks Ted Kulongoski, who Goldshit dragged out of the trash heap to be his servant, and later admitted he'd heard "rumors". Kiss my ass.

I'd say that's a pretty good summary, Kevin. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes the O to figure out that the only way out for them is to admit how badly they screwed up.

At the time of Mike's murder, the O had a circulation of about 600,000 copies out on Sundays do-all edition. That's taken hit after hit, after they jettisoned you and plugged in Therese Bottomly, who totally tanked with the hit piece above, then the Affair article with Goldshit, then her totally ignoring anything with the murder case, save Maxine Bernstein's court articles every now and then. Few and far between. And Willamette Week? As long as the owner has to go home to his wife, AG Ellen Rosenblum who is making Frank prove his innocence anew to keep from paying out a few million for totally fucking him over, and over, and over, and over...(too many overs)...I'd say you won't see a word from the O or Willy Weak in your great grandchild's grandchildren's lifetimes. Todays circulation at the O is, Sunday 156,184, Saturday 77,035 Wed and Fri 91,827. Willamette Week, which used to make it's BIG money on the Back Page sex trafficking ads until you gave them the Goldshit story, has a little over 25,000 prints they put out, but well over 100,000 online subscriptions. And good old saintly AG Ellen Rosenblum told the O that she had NO idea what her husbands newspapers across several states were actually peddling on those pesky classifieds in back, because she had never, ever, ever read one, so help me Gosh. Yes. The O bought that fucking lie, and endorsed her for Attorney General, over and over.

Whatever happened to the report Michael was going to present? Was there a backup, or did they manage to destroy all the evidence?

It was presumably in a laptop computer that disappeared after the murder. If you want to read more about it check out Chapter 4 in the Francke Murder section of this substack – "This is going to blow the top off everything."
